What is
Trigger Finger?
Trigger Finger is where the finger (or thumb) gets stuck in a bent position and is difficult to straighten. It is caused by the tendon becoming swollen and catching in the surrounding tendon sheath (white band).
Surgery cuts open the narrowed overlying band (the “A1 pulley”) through a small incision, allowing the tendon to freely move without catching.

Symptoms
- Pain at base of finger or thumb
- Finger stuck in bent position
- Popping sensation when straightened
- Finger may not fully bend or straighten if severe
Treatment
- Simple painkillers
- Splinting
- Steroid injection
- Surgery
